
Spiritual Baptist Mother Denese De Priest passed away on Monday 27th
(November) at SUNY Downstate Medical Hospital Brooklyn, New York.
The Spiritual Baptist Online News Magazine learned that ‘Mother Denese’ was
one of the persons responsible for Spiritual Baptists being able to march
through the streets of
Brooklyn,
New York, in commemoration of Spiritual Baptist Recognition Day.
The Spiritual Baptist Recognition Day celebration was held on
Saturday July 15, 2006
and members of the faith marched from Café O’mar,
Nostrand Ave
to Erasmus High School, located between Flatbush Avenue and Bedford Ave,
Brooklyn. The celebration attracted members of the faith from throughout the
English-speaking Caribbean as well as throughout the
United States.
Members of the faith from
England
and Canada also attended.
In his address to the faithful regarding the ‘Historical Synopsis of the
Spiritual Baptist Recognition Day’ Archbishop Dr. Edward F. Barrow of the
Spiritual Baptist Archdiocese of New York, Inc. said that the Spiritual
Baptist Recognition Day Celebration was one of the fruits which originated
from the discussion between Councilman Dr. Kendall Stewart and a Spiritual
Baptist delegation.
Dr. Barrow said that the delegation met with Stewart to discuss ‘the status
of the Spiritual Baptist community in
New
York,
highlight its presence as well as to enhance its communal entity as a
collective religious force throughout the state of New York’.
Mother Denese was among the members of the delegation who met with
Councilman Stewart. Other members of the delegation were Bishop Norris
Ashton ( Patriarch of the Spiritual Baptist Archdiocese of New York),
Archbishop Dr. Edward F. Barrow, King Shepherd Carlton D. Callender, Rev.
Curt Thompson, Deaconess Judy Boyce-Serrao, Teacher Michelle Antrum, Brother
Sydney, Mother Cheryll Phillips, and Captain Jamella Antrum.
